Natalie Purschwitz

Natalie Purschwitz is a Vancouver-based visual artist and clothing designer (Hunt & Gather). She studied at the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (BFA), Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science, NY, and the University of Calgary (BA, Archaeology). She also designs costumes for live productions and art performances, including uniforms for Vancouver Vancouver Vancouver, a public art performance that was part of the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad.

MakeShift is an art and research project that examines the relationships between "making," "clothing," and "living." Beyond being a nail-hammering, speed-sewing, room-pacing, hair-raising, life-enriching personal challenge, I hoped to gain some understanding of the limitations of clothing and how they affect the development of ideology. Ultimately, I wanted to examine the role of clothing as a form of cultural production.
