Dana Claxton


Dana Claxton (b. 1959) works in film, video, photography, multi-channel installation and performance art. Her work concerns beauty, justice, autonomy and spirit. She is represented in public collections, has been shown internationally, and has received numerous awards including the VIVA Award and the Eiteljorg Fellowship. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at the University of British Columbia. Of Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux heritage, Claxton was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and resides in Vancouver, B.C.

Onto the Redroad depicts what the artist describes as "the transformation of an indigenous woman, through traditional ceremonial clothing and red boots."
