Cloaked in Memory

Items of clothing often become mementos of our histories and traditions. Wedding dresses, baby shoes, and soldiers’ uniforms, for instance, are frequently preserved for future generations. Works in this gallery draw upon this spirit of reminiscence and pay homage to those who have come before us. They point not just to the ephemeral nature of life, but to cultural continuity, embodied in official and unofficial uniforms, such as the corset, the gown, and army fatigues.

Artists in this gallery include: Barb Hunt, Michele Karch-Ackerman, Jacques Payette, and Camal Pirbhai
