Annual Autumn Art Sale Exceeds Expectations Again!

Despite the rain and wind, people came out in droves to see some of the region's top contemporary artists at the McMichael's 19th Annual Autumn Art Sale. For the third year in a row, the McMichael Volunteer Committee, who runs the sale, helped fifty Canadian painters and sculptors sell over $110,000 worth of original art in just three days! Over 2,000 people attended the event, and all were impressed by the quality of the pieces on display.

One third of the money raised from the sale goes directly to children's educational programs and other initiatives at the McMichael. Over the past nineteen years, the Volunteer Committee has raised over $200,000 to enhance the visitor experience at the McMichael and fund the innovative VOICES program.

Thank you to all the volunteers and staff for their excellent effort and to this year's sponsors: The Guarantee Company of North America, Investors Group, Portfolio Management Corporation, and John and Judy Rumble.

 International Success for the McMichael

The McMichael and the Art Gallery of Ontario recently joined together to host delegates from all over North America at the biannual National Docent Symposium. Over 100 docents from across Canada and the United States convened at the McMichael for two days of talks and tours about the Collection. The Symposium provides docents with an opportunity to participate in a dialogue about the role and mission of docents and to exchange ideas with other docents from similar organizations.

The McMichael is always looking for volunteers. We have a very strong docent program with extensive training and a fun-filled, collegial atmosphere. If you or someone you know would like more information about becoming a docent or volunteer, please contact Elaine Hoffman at 905.893.1121 ext. 2214.

Maurice Cullen and His Circle

Comprised of nearly forty oil paintings, this exhibition features works by Maurice Cullen together with those of some of his contemporaries, James Wilson Morrice and William Brymner, and the future generation of artists he inspired, including his stepson, Robert Pilot, and future member of the Group of Seven, A.
