Celebrating Cape Dorset, Art Encounter with Curators Susan Gustavison and Sharona Adamowicz-Clements
Saturday, February 23
11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Part of Curatorial Lectures and Tours
A former Inuit art curator at the McMichael, Susan Gustavison returns to the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative collection with the exhibition Whales’ Tails and Other Tales: Cape Dorset’s Pudlat Family, evolving around one of the most prominent Inuit artists whose drawings, prints, and sculptures reflect the life of the community coming to terms with profound social changes from 1950 to the 1980s. To complete the story, McMichael’s Assistant Curator Sharona Adamowicz–Clements will comment on her exhibition Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? Identity in Contemporary Cape Dorset Art, presenting the latest generation of Cape Dorset artists and emphasizing the universal context of their artistic endeavours.
