Shoestring Opera presents The Schoolyard Carmen (Family Day)
Monday, February 18 (Family Day)
Performance begins at 1:30 p.m.
An inspiring story of independence matched with Bizet’s unforgettable music! In this age-appropriate adaptation of the famous opera, Carmen is a feisty little girl with a dark past—a newcomer to this country. When Tory Adair—the “coolest kid in school”—tries to bully her, she stands up to him. Through Carmen’s story we look at the immigrant in Canadian society, the child who is different, schoolyard bullying, personal independence and the saving properties of art. With Bizet’s bewitching, infectious music, Carmen’s flamenco dancing and the action-packed story, The Schoolyard Carmen is sure to be Shoestring’s most popular adaptation yet!
