Gallery remains open on January 1, 2009
December 8, 2008 Kleinburg, ON –The McMichael Canadian Art Collection celebrates its annual two days of holiday-inspired family fun with Holiday Bonus Family Days this December 29 and 30, 2008. This year’s activities include special performances by popular children’s entertainers; Jack Grunsky on December 29, and Splash'N Boots on December 30. In addition to musical performances, children will also have the opportunity to create New Year’s Eve party hats and holiday crackers with New Year’s wishes. Holiday Bonus Family Days take place on the 29th and 30th, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are included with general gallery admission. The McMichael will remain open on January 1, 2009.
Visitors to the McMichael during the holiday season will also enjoy the beautiful rural Quebec winter landscapes depicted in Clarence Gagnon’s Maria Chapdelaine illustrations, a popular McMichael exhibition which is on display at the gallery until January 18, 2009. The exhibition features fifty-four of Gagnon’s original works exhibited in a chapter-by-chapter sequence conforming to the narrative presented in the book by Louis Hémon.
About the Gallery
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is an agency of the Government of Ontario and acknowledges the support of the Ministry of Culture. It is the foremost venue in the country showcasing the Group of Seven and their contemporaries. In addition to touring exhibitions, its permanent collection consists of more than 5,500 artworks, including paintings by the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, First Nations and Inuit artists.
The gallery is located on Islington Avenue, north of Major Mackenzie Drive in Kleinburg, and is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm.
