19th Annual Volunteer Autumn Art Sale at the McMichael
October 13, 2009 Kleinburg, ON –With the passion and fired-up drive of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s Volunteer Committee, October will be going out in a blaze of fun and colour. The Volunteer Autumn Art Sale takes place October 23rd to 25th, and is expected to attract thousands of art patrons to Kleinburg and the public gallery.
The prestigious Autumn Art Sale is a juried three-day show featuring original work from fifty of Canada’s most talented painters and sculptors. It is the major fundraiser for the McMichael Volunteer Committee, with exceptional work selected from over 250 submissions. Visitors to the gallery will be able to see new works of art, talk to the artists who created them, and buy those pieces they like!
“This is the 19th year that the Volunteer Committee has organized the annual Autumn Art Sale. Each year it gets bigger and better. To date our committee has raised over $200,000 for the gallery and we are expecting big things this year,” said Geoffrey Simpson, Chair of the McMichael Volunteer Committee.
It starts with an elegant opening night gala on Friday, October 23rd from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with complimentary parking, admission, and hors d’oeuvres plus a cash bar. The sale continues on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“The Friday night gala attracts people from all across the GTA, making it a must-attend event,” Mr. Simpson continued. “We are filling every available public space in the McMichael with affordable Canadian art. The Volunteers take pride in this event; it is a year-long planning project that funds various projects in support of the McMichael such as the popular Music Concert Sundays.”
The warm September weather has delayed the arrival of the fall colour foliage. Organizers of the Autumn Art Sale are predicting a spectacular burst of colour along Major Mackenzie Drive just in time for the Volunteer art show and sale.
Friday night’s gala opening on October 23rd features free parking and admission to the gallery. For the rest of the weekend admission is as follows: $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $30 for families. There is a $5 fee for parking. The gallery is located on Islington Avenue, north of Major Mackenzie Drive in Kleinburg and is open daily, except on December 25. For more information about the gallery, visit www.mcmichael.com.
