Communications Coordinator
We are currently seeking to fill the position of Communications Coordinator.
This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week, reporting directly to the Associate Director, Marketing and Communications.
Responsibilities
- Promote and position the products and services of the gallery in key areas: exhibitions; educational and public programs; development and membership; and retail sales.
- Write, edit, and maintain content for McMichael’s website.
- Write, edit, and produce McMichael e-newsletter. Maintain up-to-date list of e-mail addresses, and develop content on a monthly basis.
- Write, edit, and produce members’ journal, Sketches; gathering information and material from other departments, write and edit articles, and coordinate design, print production and mailing of Sketches.
- Develop and maintain a pro-active media relations program; identify opportunities for media coverage and publicize all gallery events, exhibitions, services and programs to media contacts.
- Develop long-term public relations strategies to increase awareness of the gallery and garner incremental opportunities for media coverage.
- Maintain up-to-date media lists on fax, e-mail and database files for arts, entertainment, feature, lifestyle, and travel press. Working together with gallery’s freelance publicist, develop and maintain excellent media relations. Develop consistent mailings to writers with story ideas.
- Write press releases and backgrounders, and develop complete media packages, write feature stories, listings and PSAs for gallery’s freelance publicist to distribute to appropriate media.
- Respond to all requests for information from the media and general public.
- Apply copy editing skills to advertisements, brochures, promotions, and communications materials for entire gallery.
- Gather and compile articles from the clipping service and produce a monthly internal summary of media coverage.
Skills
- Post graduate education in public relations or journalism; degree specializing in communications or marketing.
- 3-5 years experience in a communications, marketing or public relations position.
- Superior writing and communication skills.
- Highly organized with an attention to detail.
- Experience working with print and electronic media.
- Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, HTML and working with Constant Contact is an asset.
- Proven ability to write for media, advertising, promotions and support material applications.
- Experience in new media including Internet and multi-media applications.
- Deep understanding of the not-for-profit sector.
- French bilingualism is an asset.

Custodial Services
We are seeking to recruit an additional full-time staff in Custodial Services.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for weekend and evening work.
Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, duties include:
- cleaning and cleaning-related duties in all gallery buildings as per schedule and custom requests
- responds to work orders and performs required work pre and post special events and functions to quality standards
- movement of goods and materials within the gallery and site
- responsible for removing garbage and recycling from the building, and working with Contractors to ensure proper sanitary procedures are maintained.
Skills
- Good knowledge in the use and safe operation of equipment and cleaning tools
- Valid driver’s license
- First Aid training
- WHMIS knowledge
Experience in Custodial services is required.

Camp Director
We are currently seeking to fill the full-time contract position of Camp Director for our ArtVenture Summer Art Camp.This is a 4 month contract, from May 10 to August 27, 2010.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation of the ArtVenture Summer Camp.
- Supervise and evaluate instructors, assistants, and volunteers.
- Daily communication with staff, colleagues, and parents.
- Provide positive feedback and suggestions for Camp improvement.
- Schedule and book facility spaces and prepare work orders.
- Liaise with the Camp staff, Program Manager, gallery staff, and camper’s parents, always ensuring that camp and gallery safety procedures are maintained.
The ideal candidate will be a student completing a post graduate degree or a third or fourth year bachelor degree and will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- A passion for working with children.
- An art background.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- First aid certification.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Experience in leading others through leadership training, camp skills or any other related fields.
- Fluency in English is required.
