Associate Director, Individual Giving

Join the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, one of Canada’s top public galleries and the only one with a mandate to exclusively collect Canadian art, as it approaches the celebration of 50 years of achievement. As a key member of the Development team, play a critical role in growing a comprehensive fund development program for individuals that supports revenue generation, engagement and donor communications strategies.  Collaborate with passionate colleagues and volunteers to realize the McMichael’s newly stated vision to be recognized as an extraordinary place to visit and explore Canadian culture and identity, and the connections between art and nature.

The Opportunity
You will grow the membership, annual and legacy giving programs for individual supporters, including the Patrons Council for $1,000+ donors; prepare funding proposals and donor communications; personally solicit and develop relationships with donors and members through events and other activities.  Collaborate with colleagues and volunteers to build a prospect pipeline to support major giving initiatives leading up to the McMichael’s 50th anniversary. Manage and track revenue goals/expenditure levels to ensure annual targets are met.  Provide strategic leadership in the identification, solicitation and stewardship of donors and members at all levels and expand the donor base through excellence in cultivation and donor relations.

Skills required
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years fundraising experience in the cultural and/or non-profit environment, with the ability to work with prominent community leaders, senior executives and volunteers in building outstanding working relationships. The Associate Director, Individual Giving will have excellent problem-solving and persuasion skills, strong communication skills - written and verbal, including proposal writing experience. Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Lotus Notes, Raiser’s Edge. The job will require evening and weekend work and frequent off site meetings.
